Is This the Real Science?

Or is it just more faith-based initiatives...

From the nut, er, congressman who called evolution "lies from the pit of hell" comes proposed legislation to lessen the peer review requirements for public science grants. Sounds nice, but a conservative offering up federal money? Perhaps the congressman has some other design in mind...

The Ban Hammer Pakistani Style

In this edition of Where Are They Now:War on Terror Allies, we look at Dubya's old buddy Pervy. From The Washington Post:

A Pakistani court on Tuesday banned former military ruler Pervez Musharraf from running for public office for the rest of his life, the latest blow since he returned from exile last month to make a political comeback.

I hold the sincere hope that Pervy is called to account for the untimely death of Benazir Bhutto. I saw her speak early last decade and recall her words of caution toward our then-cozy relationship with the Pakistani dictator.

Had the first and only female leader in the Islamic world not fallen to an assasin's designs, the Asian continent would surely look differently today.

Despite some shortcomings which needn't consume space here, I contend that a powerful female figure exerting influence over the Middle East might have done a bit of good in that region.

North Korea Captured a US Navy Ship. Wha?

Actually they captured it in 1968, but it's still being held to this day. It's the USS Pueblo; the only active US Navy ship held captive by a foreign country.

And that country is friggin' North Korea?!? Give it back, Kim Jong-un!
