A Pakistani court on Tuesday banned former military ruler Pervez Musharraf from running for public office for the rest of his life, the latest blow since he returned from exile last month to make a political comeback.
I hold the sincere hope that Pervy is called to account for the untimely death of Benazir Bhutto. I saw her speak early last decade and recall her words of caution toward our then-cozy relationship with the Pakistani dictator.
Had the first and only female leader in the Islamic world not fallen to an assasin's designs, the Asian continent would surely look differently today.
Despite some shortcomings which needn't consume space here, I contend that a powerful female figure exerting influence over the Middle East might have done a bit of good in that region.
